Search warrant

A judicial order that authorizes government agents to examine a specific place or person for items connected to criminal activity. To obtain the warrant, law enforcement must present a judge with an affidavit demonstrating probable cause that a crime has occurred and that evidence of the crime exists at the location to be searched. The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution establishes the requirements for issuing warrants, protecting against unreasonable searches.
