Subject to a condition subsequent

A provision in a contract or property deed that terminates an existing right or obligation upon the occurrence of a specified future event. The right or interest is vested immediately but remains vulnerable to being undone if the condition materializes. This contrasts with a condition precedent, which must be fulfilled before a right or obligation comes into existence.
