Condition subsequent

A clause in a contract or legal document that specifies an event or action which, if it occurs after the formation of the agreement, will terminate an existing obligation or right. The occurrence of this condition extinguishes a previously vested interest or duty. An example is a deed conveying land with a condition that if alcohol is sold on the premises, the title reverts to the grantor.
