Torture

The intentional infliction of severe physical or mental pain or suffering on a person for purposes such as obtaining information or a confession, punishment, intimidation, or coercion. International law, such as the United Nations Convention Against Torture, strictly prohibits this practice. Evidence obtained through torture is generally inadmissible in legal proceedings.
