Breakbulk cargo
Term · Logistics and supply chain · MLC-T-LOG-000032
Goods that are stowed and transported individually rather than being containerized or shipped in bulk. These non-unitized items, such as machinery, steel girders, or vehicles, are loaded onto a vessel one piece at a time using cranes, nets, or slings. Breakbulk shipping is distinct from both container shipping, which uses standardized intermodal containers, and bulk shipping, which handles loose commodities like grain or oil.
