Advective thunderstorm
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003321
A thunderstorm that develops primarily due to the advection of warm, moist air into a region, leading to atmospheric instability and convection. While local heating can contribute, the primary driver is the horizontal transport of favorable atmospheric conditions. These storms are often associated with frontal systems or low-pressure troughs.
