Angular drift

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010373

The apparent displacement of a celestial object from its expected position due to the observer's motion. In the context of atmospheric observations from a moving platform like a ship or aircraft, it is the change in the bearing of an object caused by the platform's own movement. This drift must be accounted for in celestial navigation and in tracking atmospheric phenomena like clouds or weather balloons.
