Atmospheric circulation model

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-000221

  1. A numerical model that simulates the large-scale movement of air in the Earth's atmosphere, driven by differential heating and the Coriolis effect. These models use mathematical equations to represent physical processes like radiation, convection, and turbulence. They are fundamental tools for understanding global weather patterns and predicting future climate change.

  2. A mathematical model for quantitatively describing, simulating, and analyzing the structure of the circulation in the atmosphere and the underlying causes. Sometimes referred to as Atmospheric General Circulation Models or AGCMs.
