Atmospheric electric field
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003672
The electric field that exists naturally within the Earth's atmosphere, primarily due to the separation of charges between the Earth's surface and the ionosphere. This field is typically directed downward in fair weather, with an average strength of about 100-200 V/m near the surface. It is significantly altered during thunderstorms.
