Baffle
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003779
A plate, screen, or partition used within a meteorological instrument to obstruct, guide, or regulate the flow of a fluid or the path of radiation. In a rain gauge, a baffle can reduce the effect of wind on the collection of precipitation, improving measurement accuracy. Optical instruments like radiometers use baffles to block stray light from entering the sensor and contaminating the measurement.
