Fluxplate

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005663

A specialized sensor designed to measure heat flux directly at or near the ground surface. It consists of a thin, thermally conductive plate with embedded thermopiles that generate a voltage proportional to the temperature difference across the plate, which is then related to the heat flow. These instruments are commonly used in micrometeorological studies to quantify energy exchange between the land surface and the atmosphere.
