Barrier jet
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-000287
A low-level, narrow band of strong winds that forms parallel to a mountain range or other topographic barrier. It occurs when an air mass is blocked by the barrier, causing it to accelerate along the obstacle's face. These jets are often associated with enhanced precipitation on the windward side of the barrier and can significantly impact local weather conditions and aviation.
A jet-like wind current that forms when a stably-stratified low-level airflow approaches a mountain barrier and turns to the left to blow parallel to the longitudinal axis of the barrier.
