Beaded lightning

A rare form of lightning that appears as a series of luminous segments or beads along the lightning channel, rather than a continuous streak. This optical illusion is thought to be caused by portions of the lightning channel cooling and fading more rapidly than others. It is also known as pearl necklace lightning.
