Bornan

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003987

A cold, gusty wind that blows during the day from the Dranse valley onto Lake Geneva in Switzerland. This localized, katabatic wind is channeled by the valley's topography, accelerating as it descends toward the lake. The bornan is most common in clear weather conditions and can create choppy water, affecting navigation on the eastern part of the lake.
