Bottom temperature
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003992
The temperature of the water layer immediately adjacent to the bed of an ocean, sea, or lake. This measurement is a key variable in physical oceanography and limnology, influencing water density, vertical stratification, and the distribution of benthic organisms. In deep ocean basins, bottom temperatures are consistently low, hovering just above freezing.
