Bottom friction

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003991

The resistive force exerted by the seafloor or land surface on the overlying fluid, such as water or air, as it moves. This force acts to slow down the flow, transferring momentum from the fluid to the boundary. It is parameterized in ocean and atmospheric models using a drag coefficient, which depends on the roughness of the surface.
