Skin friction
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008916
The resistive force generated by the viscous shearing stresses within a fluid boundary layer adjacent to a solid surface. In meteorology, it represents the drag experienced by the atmosphere as it flows over the Earth's surface due to the viscosity of the air. This force is a primary mechanism for the transfer of momentum from the atmosphere to the underlying surface.
