Bucket thermometer

A simple thermometer used to measure the temperature of water collected in a bucket, typically from the sea surface. This instrument consists of a mercury-in-glass or alcohol-in-glass thermometer encased in a protective housing. It was a standard tool for marine observations before the advent of more sophisticated in-situ and remote sensing technologies.
