Marine thermometer

A device used to measure air or sea surface temperature in a marine environment. These thermometers are often housed in protective casings to prevent damage from saltwater and harsh weather conditions. Sea surface temperature data, collected by these instruments, is a key input for oceanographic and meteorological models.
