Liquid thermometer

A device that measures temperature by observing the expansion or contraction of a liquid contained within a sealed glass tube. Common liquids used include mercury and alcohol, chosen for their predictable thermal expansion properties over a range of temperatures. These thermometers are widely used for surface air temperature measurements.
