Deformation thermometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004901
A class of thermometers that operates on the principle that a change in temperature causes a predictable physical deformation in a sensing element. This category includes bimetallic thermometers, where two bonded metals with different expansion coefficients bend, and Bourdon tube thermometers, where a sealed, curved tube straightens as the internal fluid expands. The magnitude of the deformation is calibrated to a temperature scale.
