Mercury thermometer

A temperature-measuring device consisting of a glass tube with a bulb containing mercury, which expands and contracts with temperature changes. The expansion or contraction of the mercury column indicates the ambient temperature on a calibrated scale. These thermometers were once widely used for accurate atmospheric temperature measurements.
