Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003697

A thermometer mounted on the casing of a mercury barometer to indicate the temperature of the mercury column and its metal scale. The reading is used to correct the barometer's height reading to what it would be at a standard temperature of zero degrees Celsius. It measures the temperature of the instrument and not that of the surrounding air.
