Mercury-in-glass thermometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007205
A common type of thermometer where mercury is enclosed in a sealed glass tube with a bulb at one end and a calibrated scale. The expansion and contraction of the mercury with temperature changes cause it to rise or fall within the narrow bore. These instruments were historically used for precise air temperature measurements in weather stations.
