Liquid-in-glass thermometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006997
A common type of thermometer that measures temperature by observing the expansion and contraction of a liquid, such as mercury or alcohol, contained within a sealed glass bulb and capillary tube. The liquid level rises or falls against a calibrated scale etched onto the glass. These instruments are widely used for routine meteorological observations of air and soil temperature.
