Liquid-in-metal thermometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006998
A temperature-measuring device that uses the expansion and contraction of a liquid, such as mercury or alcohol, contained within a metal bulb and capillary tube. As the ambient temperature changes, the liquid expands or contracts, moving along a calibrated scale to indicate the temperature. These thermometers are often used for surface air temperature measurements due to their reliability and direct readability.
