Budgets of atmospheric species

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004066

A quantitative accounting of the sources, sinks, and transport processes that control the concentration of a chemical species in the atmosphere. The budget equation balances the rate of change of a species' concentration against its rates of emission, chemical production, chemical loss, and deposition. For a species in a steady state, the sum of all sources must equal the sum of all sinks.
