Cajú rains

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010415

A period of light rainfall that occurs in northeastern Brazil, particularly in the state of Ceará, during the dry season months of September and October. These out-of-season rains are named for the cashew (cajú) tree, as they coincide with its flowering period. The precipitation is often weak and sporadic, providing only minor and temporary relief from the region's pronounced dry season before the main rainy season begins later in the year.
