Clathrate hydrate
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004324
A crystalline solid compound in which water molecules form a cage-like structure around guest molecules, such as methane or carbon dioxide. These compounds are stable under specific conditions of high pressure and low temperature. Methane clathrates are found in deep ocean sediments and permafrost regions, representing a large reservoir of natural gas.
