Cloud base

The lowest altitude at which the visible portion of a cloud forms. This level is determined by the lifting condensation level, where the air parcel cools to its dew point and water vapor condenses into liquid droplets or ice crystals. It is often measured by ceilometers or estimated visually by observers.
