Cold-air injection
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004508
The process by which a mass of cold, dense air moves into a region, displacing warmer, less dense air. This advection of cold air at the surface or aloft can trigger atmospheric instability, leading to the development of thunderstorms or intensifying cyclonic systems. Cold-air injection behind a cold front is a common feature of developing mid-latitude cyclones, contributing to the system's baroclinic energy.
