Cold cap
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004494
A high-latitude climatic zone in Supan's 1879 global classification where even the warmest month has a mean temperature below 10 degrees Celsius. That summer temperature limit lies close to the Arctic tree line, so Köppen adopted it in 1918 to separate polar climates from forested ones. Supan's scheme also distinguished a temperate belt and a hot belt.
