Corona current
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004706
An electric current that flows from a pointed or thin conductor into the surrounding air when the electric field strength at the conductor's surface exceeds a critical value. This phenomenon is often observed on high-voltage power lines or tall structures during thunderstorms. It is a form of electrical discharge that can produce a faint glow and a hissing sound.
