Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005338
A scientific instrument used to detect the presence and magnitude of electric charge on a body. It typically consists of two thin, metallic leaves suspended from a conductor within a protective casing. When a charged object touches the conductor, the leaves acquire the same charge and repel each other, indicating the presence of an electric field.
