Corrasion

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004712

The erosional process by which rock and other surfaces are worn away by the abrasive action of solid particles carried by wind, water, or ice. In an atmospheric context, it specifically describes wind-driven erosion, where sand and silt particles are blown against exposed rock, causing mechanical weathering through scraping, grinding, and scouring. This process is most effective in arid and coastal environments with strong winds and an abundant supply of loose sediment.
