Cryptoclimatology

The study of the climate within hidden or enclosed environments, such as caves, soils, or dense forest canopies, where conditions are buffered from the external atmosphere. It involves measuring and analyzing microclimates that are not represented by standard meteorological station data. This field is distinct from paleoclimatology, which reconstructs past large-scale climates using proxy records.
