D-analysis

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010459

A method of meteorological analysis that focuses on the D-value, which is the difference between the actual altitude of a given pressure surface and the altitude of that same pressure surface in the ICAO Standard Atmosphere. Contours of constant D-values on a chart are equivalent to contours of geopotential height on a constant-pressure chart. This analysis technique was more common before the widespread use of direct geopotential height analysis.
