D-value

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005197

The difference between the actual geopotential height of a constant pressure surface and the standard geopotential height for that pressure surface. It is often expressed in meters or decameters. A positive D-value indicates a higher-than-standard pressure surface, while a negative D-value indicates a lower-than-standard surface, providing insight into atmospheric pressure anomalies.
