Damped wave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004851
A wave whose amplitude progressively decreases over time or distance due to energy dissipation. In atmospheric science, this often occurs with atmospheric waves that lose energy through friction, turbulence, or radiative processes. The rate of damping depends on the specific physical mechanisms involved and the properties of the medium.
