Decoupling
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004888
A state where different layers of the atmosphere or components of a system cease to interact or influence each other effectively. For instance, the surface layer can decouple from the free atmosphere during stable nocturnal conditions, leading to distinct temperature and wind profiles. This phenomenon impacts vertical mixing and the transport of pollutants.
