Design wave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004949
A theoretical sea wave defined by specific characteristics such as height, period, and direction, used for the design of coastal and offshore structures. Its parameters are derived from statistical analysis of long-term wave data for a particular location, representing an extreme event with a specified return period. Structures like breakwaters, jetties, and oil platforms are engineered to resist the forces exerted by the design wave.
