Dew cell

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004962

A type of hygrometer used to measure the dewpoint temperature, consisting of a thermometer element wrapped with a fabric wick saturated with a hygroscopic salt solution, typically lithium chloride. An electric current heats the solution until it reaches an equilibrium temperature where the vapor pressure of the solution matches that of the ambient air. This equilibrium temperature is then directly related to the dewpoint.
