Diamond dust
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-000706
A precipitation phenomenon consisting of very small ice crystals, often observed in clear, cold air. These crystals form near the surface when the temperature is well below freezing and the air is supersaturated with respect to ice. It is a form of precipitation that falls from a cloudless sky, distinguishing it from snow or ice pellets.
A fall of non-branched (snow crystals are branched) ice crystals in the form of needles, columns, or plates.
