Diapycnal
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004971
Describing processes or movements that occur across surfaces of constant potential density in a stratified fluid. These processes involve the mixing of water masses with different densities, leading to changes in the vertical density structure. Diapycnal mixing is driven by turbulent eddies and contributes to the overall stratification of the ocean.
