Boundary mixing
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003999
The process by which air within the atmospheric boundary layer becomes vertically homogenized due to turbulent eddies generated by surface heating and friction. This mixing distributes heat, moisture, and pollutants throughout the layer, influencing local weather and air quality. The intensity of boundary mixing is often quantified by the turbulent kinetic energy within the layer.
