Epipycnal
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005400
Describing processes or movements that occur along surfaces of constant density in a stratified fluid, such as the ocean or atmosphere. This type of motion is often associated with mixing or transport that is constrained by density stratification, minimizing vertical displacement. Epipycnal mixing is particularly relevant in the ocean for the lateral spreading of water masses.
