Dielectric strength
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004977
The maximum electric field that an insulating material can withstand without experiencing electrical breakdown. In atmospheric science, this property is relevant to the behavior of air and other atmospheric gases under high electric potential, such as during lightning formation. For dry air at standard temperature and pressure, the dielectric strength is approximately 3 megavolts per meter.
