Spark discharge
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009083
A sudden, luminous electrical discharge that occurs when the electric field strength in a gas exceeds its dielectric breakdown strength. In the atmosphere, this phenomenon is observed as lightning, where a channel of ionized air forms between charged regions. It is characterized by a rapid release of energy and light.
