Arc discharge
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003601
A type of electrical breakdown in a gas that generates a sustained, high-current plasma discharge between two electrodes. This process creates a bright, luminous arc as the current ionizes the gas, making it electrically conductive. Lightning is a natural example of an arc discharge, where a massive electrical current flows through the air between clouds or from a cloud to the ground.
