Relative permittivity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008509

A dimensionless quantity that describes the ability of a material to store electrical energy in an electric field, relative to a vacuum. Also known as the dielectric constant, it influences the propagation of electromagnetic waves through a medium. In atmospheric science, the relative permittivity of air, which varies with temperature, pressure, and humidity, affects radar signal propagation.
